It is the great mystery of the HMWL: the pattern of HMWL Championships. Starting in 2002, each season has seen a repeat champion, but never 3-in-a-row.

HMWL Champions
2001
Rich McMackin & Matt Cassaro
2002
Fred Rogers & Rich McMackin
2004
Craig Hastings & Fred Rogers
2005
Justin Hastings & Craig Hastings

Rich McMackin, after his two dominant back-to-back titles, fell off the earth in the 2004 season. McMackin couldn't find his groove from the mound and did not qualify for the postseason.

Rich McMackin (here in 2001) couldn't win three titles in a row.
Fred Rogers was the closest to completing the trifecta. After reaching the 2005 championship, Fred was only a 3-game series win away from three straight titles. Instead, it was his opponents Justin & Craig Hastings that swept him out of the playoffs and out of the record books.

The stage is set yet again in 2006 for someone to complete the 3-peat. If Craig Hastings comes through with his third consecutive HMWL Championship, he will most certainly step to the forefront of the league’s all-time best.
