Since the lull of 2003 (when the HMWL Championship seemingly disappeared), the HMWL’s stars have staked their claim on different portions of the game. Over the two regular seasons, plenty of statistics have piled up, helping to decide the league’s best pitcher, contact hitter, power hitter, and fielder. Here are League President Justin Hastings’s opinions (remember, these titles are based solely on regular season statistics:

Will Kenney is the winner here. Although his statistics are very comparable with that of Fred Rogers, it is his 14-6 record that blows away Fred and Justin, not to mention his six shutouts. Fred may have set records in 2005 with his miniscule ERA, but the best two-year body of work goes to Will.

The best contact hitter is easlly Craig Hastings. Yes, he may have the most at-bats over the past two seasons, but his average and on-base percentage speak for themselves. If that isn't enough to convince you, know that two-thirds of the balls Craig puts in play are hits. Fred and Will can only say that about half of their batted-balls. The best power hitter title is up for debate. Most categories have Will & Fred in a virtual tie. However, there are those almost twenty extra runs that Fred has driven in over the past two seasons. Because of that, I give the slightest of edges to Fred Rogers as the league's best power hitter.

FIELDING

Granted, there is no way to statistically track the best fielder in the league. Historically, Justin Hastings has been known as the league's best in the field, having a strong and accurate throw from shortstop. I think that still holds up today. Also, of the three pitchers above, Justin holds the greatest percentage of non-strikeout outs. That means he not only can pitch well, but can field the position too. That makes Justin Hastings the league's best fielder.
