Throughout the history of the 5-year-old Hastings Major Wiffleball League, the league’s problems have never been with its stars. They have never been with its play, its rules, or its competition.

No, the one issue that has always plagued the HMWL is scheduling. As the league’s players have gotten older, the amount of games has rapidly decreased. Be it work, school, or other time conflicts, the length of the HMWL schedule has diminished due to several outside circumstances.

League President Justin Hastings wants to see more games this summer.

That’s why the HMWL continues to adapt to the changes of the league. In the past, the HMWL has adjusted the speed of pitching, the layout of the field, and even the way the postseason is decided.

With a new season comes a new addition.

To help increase the amount of games played during the 2006 season, the HMWL brass has decided to mark May and June, notoriously the busiest months of the season, as prime territory for a scheduling boost.

Starting Tuesday, May 2, there will be wiffleball played on every Tuesday and Thursday through the end of June. With these 18 pre-arranged game dates, the HMWL hopes to boost the league’s game total, therefore giving the league’s players more opportunities to play and qualify for the postseason.

“If indeed this scheduling works as planned, it will be a great boost and achievement for the league,” said League President Justin Hastings. “We’ve long-talked about set teams and a set schedule, but it was always too far out of our reach. With this focused time period, we feel we can get more games in without infringing on the league as a whole.”

With more wiffleball, there’s more games. With more games, there’s better competition. With better competition comes the best rush to the playoffs in league history.

Let the the games, and games, and games… begin.
