McMackin
debuts with win from the bump

May
10 marked the first time Rich McMackin set foot on Hastings
Park in nine months.
And he started off with a bang.
In game one of the day, McMackin and Tom Horan teamed up for
a 3-2 victory over Craig Hastings and Fred Rogers. Despite
the hiccup of yielding a 2-run homer to Rogers in the 2nd
inning, McMackin threw a solid game. Rich helped his own cause,
driving in all 3 runs in the home half of the 2nd with a solo
homer to lead off the inning in addition to a 2-run triple.
McMackin swiftly ended the game, with back-to-back strikeouts
to record his first victory of the 2005 season.
Game two featured another 1-run affair with someone other
than McMackin coming up big. The game started off quickly
as TJ Collins hit a leadoff homer to give he, McMackin, and
Fred Rogers an early 1-0 lead. That would be the only run
Will Kenney would allow. Kenney’s counterpart, Fred
Rogers, started the game with 4 consecutive strikeouts and
did not allow a baserunner until allowing a walk in the home
half of the third.
But two batters later, Craig Hastings would end the game with
a 2-run walkoff homer. Hastings, Horan, and Kenney would win
the game, 2-1.
Game 3 was postponed because of darkness. At the time, the
game was tied at 3.

The
game marked Rich McMackin's first game in about nine months.
The last time McMackin played, it was August of 2004.
Game 3 on the day was called due to darkness. The batting
stats have been added to the statistics page, but not the
pitching stats.
After winning both games, Tom Horan improved his record to
4-1, giving him the HMWL's best record as of June 1.
Craig Hastings hit his first home run of the year in game
two. His career season high is 7 in 2004. |
